Philos- women were organized into auxillaries that had various names until 1954 when the sorority officially approved the the organized affiliate group and accepted the name of "Philo" (meaning friends) as their official name.
Rhoer Club- are young girls organized on a local, regional, and national level. The Rhoer affiliates are working to help other young people while they learn about their heritage and develop leadership skills. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is dedicated to helping Rhoers grow to be women of substance dedicated to service.
Who are We?
We are our sister's keeper. We take each other very seriously. One of the unique benefits of being small is the greater feeling of true sisterhood. We may disagree on several things, but our common goals and ideals allows us to agree to disagree. It is almost impossible to convey the love that we share, it can only be experienced!
What is a Sorority?
The word "sorority" means sisterhood. A soroity promotes unity of oneness, enthusiasm, a spirit. It means a conscientious effort to satisfy two basic urges of all womankind: companionship and the forward thrust toward idealism. Each member is a "soror," working for the good and welfare of one another, striving to guide the aims and precepts of the soroity.
What is the NPHC?
The NPHC or National Pan-Hellenic Council was organized in May 1930 at Howard Univeristy in Washington, D.C. as a governing body for African-American greek letter organizations. There are nine organizations that make up the NPHC, they are commonly reffered to as the "Divine Nine." These nine organizations include: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity.
